Additional Therapies
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves
applying heat from a slow-burning herb over acupuncture points to
strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of Qi, warm the channels, and
maintain general health. A practitioner lights one end of a moxa stick,
made from a species of mugwort (Artemisia Vulgaris), roughly the
shape and size of a cigar, and held just over the skin of the area being
treated for several minutes until the area turns red. Moxibustion has
successfully been used to turn breech babies into a normal head-down
position prior to childbirth.
Cupping is one of the oldest methods of traditional Chinese medicine. It
utilizes glass or plastic cups. The glass cups are warmed using a cotton ball
which is soaked in alcohol, let, than placed inside the cup to remove the
oxygen which creates a vacuum and then applied to the skin. The plastic
cups uses a pump to create the vacuum. The vacuum created by the lack of
oxygen anchors the cup to the skin over acupuncture points, or area affected
by pain. The cupping help to draw the Qi and blood to the surface and restore
their smooth flow. Cupping also draws toxins to the skin’s surface, stimulating
the person’s immune response, improves circulation and rejuvenate cell and
tissue repair. They are commonly used to treat respiratory conditions such as
bronchitis, asthma, congestion and pain.
Moving cupping utilizes glass cups. Herbal oil is first applied to the local
area, then the cups are placed on the skin by heat suction along acupuncture
meridian pathways. The cups are then gently moved in a slow massage-like
manner. Cupping may leave redness or in some cases slight bruising on the
areas where the cups were applied. These bruises are usually painless,
however, and disappear within a few days of treatment.
Electroacupuncture To strongly stimulate the flow of Qi, acupuncture
needles are inserted on specific points along the body. The needles are then
attached to a specifically-designed electroacupuncture device that generates
electric pulses. The frequency and strength of the electric pulse can be varied
to achieve the desired effect for each patient. Electroacupuncture is
especially useful for conditions of chronic pain. Patients may experience a
tingling sensation while being treated with electroacupuncture.
Massage & Tui Na Therapy Massage is widely used in Oriental Medicine
to promote Qi and blood flow through the meridians. One form of this therapy
is Tui Na which combines acupressure, massage and stretching to help
restore balance in the body.
Ear Coning Gentle, safe, and relaxing process to remove ear wax and
toxins build up by using candle with special wax.
